Today’s Memory

Hello everyone!  It has been a while since I posted.  There just hasn’t been enough time in the day lately it seems.  That and an extreme case of writer’s block.  Those are my excuses and I am going to stick by them!!  I’ve tried to keep moving forward with the running but my body is still fighting it.  My plan is to fight back and win!

Luckily, I have wonderful friends who have invited my wife Kathryn and I to come visit.  That is what we need – a vacation in sunny Florida!  So we are packing up the tribute book, ribbons and running gear for a quick trip to the beach.  And because I am obsessed – I’ll be running in the Dress for Success 5K in Lake Worth on Saturday!  The exciting part for me is that my wife and friends, Bob and Mary Isenbek, will be participating as well!  Not only are Bob and Mary amazing friends…they are also donors and care givers.  Exceptional!!

Make it a memorable day!

Keith

Today’s Memory

A quick run this morning at 5am to get the blood flowing through the legs.  Ashley wants me to do a long run with her on Saturday as she trains for her first full marathon.   I accept her challenge as I can’t let her get too far ahead of me!!  I couldn’t get the Thrift Shop song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis out of my head as I was pounding the pavement so…. I ran to the thrift shop down the road…and I looked incredible!!

On my February 26th Retirement blog I challenged all of you to complete the following sentence:

Old running shoes never die, they just……..

And you all brought the jokes!!!  I couldn’t choose between two of the entries so I will donate $20 to the Alzheimer’s Association in the name of each of the co-winners:

  1. Bob Isenbek – Old running shoes never die, they just……..lose their soles
  2. Phyllis Waite – Old running shoes never die, they just……..take a hike

I’m also going to donate an additional $60 for the other six entries for a total of $100.  Thanks for playing…I enjoyed your creativity!!

Make it a memorable day!

Today’s Memory

Well March has arrived and I’m trying to get back into the swing of this running thing.  Since the journey started in January I’ve had a lot of time to think about how the brain works.  It’s been two weeks since the marathon and I remember finishing it.  I know it was extremely hard.  I see the finisher’s medal hanging in the living room.  But my mind tells me I’ve never run a day in my life.  My body tells me that I’ve never run a day in my life.  Lies, lies, lies.  My daughter, Christina, who has been running for a long time tells me this is normal and she goes through it also.  I hope things change soon.  This doesn’t make sense….

Okay….I’m done whining….Let’s talk about what’s been going on the last few days.

First of all.  During tonight’s run at Town Lake a skunk ran in front of me on the path…stopped…and looked at me.  I froze for a moment and then ran away as fast as I could.  I’m sure I don’t smell that great after a run but that would have been over the top!!

Second.  Yesterday I almost gave up on my run after one half of a mile.  As I mentioned above, it started out as a bad run – like I hadn’t ever trained before.  Luckily Christina called right then, encouraged me and off I went.  I thought maybe a change of scenery in my route might make things better.  This is what I saw on the way back…

Maybe I should stick with my old routes!!

And last but certainly not least…..One of the joys in my life has been being a dad to four wonderful girls.  So many wonderful memories.  But how does my baby Elizabeth (who looks like this in my mind)…….

CONGRATULATIONS Elizabeth and Ryan!!  I am so excited for you as you start this journey to build your own memories together.  You both make me proud….

I’m tearing up…so that’s all for now…

Make it a memorable day!
